An exploration of Shakespeare's plays and how to integrate a fight into a scene. You will learn how to incorporate characters’ violence naturally and seamlessly into the story. This six-week course is an immersion into the treachery, debauchery, and murder in Shakespeare'’s plays.
In the first hour of each class you will examine Shakespeare with Artistic Director, Seth Duerr, to explore the text and how language reveals intention for the character. Then we’'ll get scenes “on their feet” to practice expressing your intentions with clarity in performing a scene.
In the second hour you will study with Fight Director Jared Kirby to learn the fundamental principles of combat for stage such as safe distance, cooperative energy, planar geometry and the process of developing physical actions to create extraordinary fights with martial intent.
